ENGAGEMENT

Posted by AllieB on June 13, 2011

Charlotte and Stanton are ENGAGED!! My big sister is getting MARRIED! I AM SO EXCITED!!!! He surprised her with a weekend getaway to Miami where he popped the Q on Friday night, and the ring…it’s a great ring. Char, do you want BBT to take care of your save-the dates? I kid; I told you: NOTHING viral.

I realize this is not from this weekend, but it's one of my favorites :)

So, that happened. I can’t wait to plan!! I will be a great help with: your dress, my dress, music, the menu (I like things wrapped in bacon), and perhaps slightly less so with the guest list. I learned a lot from William and Kate’s nuptials back in April and am thusly an invaluable wedding resource – I’m full of relevant insight.

It’s about time we had a Baxter Family Wedding; I think we can all be glad Jordan isn’t the first one heading down the aisle…also, Stanton, when Madison and I were setting up your Gmail filters I did notice that you had an ENGAGEMENT folder – I obviously didn’t open it, but I definitely saw it…Madison even offered to be the lookout (he’s the brawn, not so much with the brains), but I resisted: if nothing else, I have my integrity. Madison’s, I’m afraid, is questionable.

Tina, when you sent me your video Friday morning it had received 12 views; it now has over 80. I walked into 5p on Friday for some AWD’s, and people were sitting in a booth watching it on an iPhone – it’s legit stuff. You’re well on your way to becoming an internet sensation akin to Bill Go Big Time or similar. Actually, BGBT has over 20,000 views, so I guess you’ve kind of got a ways to go…baby steps. I’m glad I know these people; watch their vids and get your week started off on the right foot.

Friendly reminder: Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 19th! June 19th is actually a pretty big deal here on BBT….

Have you experimented with Picasa’s photo editing platform, Picnik?? BOLO for a BBT makeover…!

Camel, I think your back is broken

Posted by AllieB on March 9, 2011

This is the last straw. Blackberry’s are not very cool – the key pad is annoying, the flash on the camera is legitimately blinding, and, most of all, it is more functional than it is fun and awesome. What do I need function for when Google has created this ingenious new app for iPhones and Android. I LOVE GOOGLE. Sorry I’m not sorry BBM buddies, this train is sailing as soon as I can afford the flat price of a Verizon iPhone without any contract signing bonuses or upgrade discounts – this means to say…anytime within the next 1 – 8 months.

Meet & Greet: Google Goggles –

Do you see?? This is fantastic! Translate those pesky Lebanese menus, search by sight, log your wines, recognize art without having to ask/check the artist…this is like the ultimate app. Obviously I don’t know anything about anything when it comes to iPhones, and I’m sure there are already apps like this – but Google Goggles still thrills me. It’s just good thinking, is what it is. Click here to enjoy your own interactive perusal. (Credit: PAL)

Plus, then I can start submitting hilarious typos to that damnyouautocorrect website.

This is what I learned today

Posted by AllieB on January 6, 2011

Through various WordPress features I can see what phrases/words people search on Google or Bing or Yahoo or wherever that land them on Baxter Bark Twice. For those of you concerned about your privacy (K…), I can assure you that nothing beyond your search terms are divulged:

As you can see in the screen shot above, at some point in the last 17 hours some weirdo out in cyberspace entered the phrase “taco bell beef gun” into his search engine of choice and wound up at www.baxterbarktwice.com.

To the person who is looking for a taco bell beef gun: have fun being curious. However, if it helps, here’s the sour cream gun – maybe it’s not dissimilar to the beef gun…? Also, might I suggest going to the TB franchise on Northside Parkway near W. Paces Ferry – I’m sure the friendly folk there would be happy to help you find your beef gun.

“…but you can imagine how wicked awesome the meat hose must be.”

I find it perturbing that BBT showed up in the search results for such a query. Perturbing…and kind of awesome.

There are stupid questions

Posted by AllieB on December 2, 2010

This doesn’t make me sound super cool, but I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I like to know things, and if I don’t know something about which I am curious I like to research until I can figure it out. Google is my favorite invention, ever. I say that quite literally – I thought about it, and of all the things I make use of on a day to day basis I appreciate Google most. I’m clearly not counting cars and food and wine, etc. I especially adore Google Image – the results to the query “puppies hugging” make me really happy.

MASH!

I get that looking stuff up online can be tedious and often it’s just easier to send a quick chat or email to a friend asking a quick Q, but there are limits. To those who send gchats asking, “how late is Trader Joe’s open?” or, “where is the concert tonight?” or, “what is a salad spinner?” – allow me.

First, I go to www.lmgtfy.com and am presented with the following screen, at which point I type in whatever idiotic question with which I’ve been burdened:

Per the instructions, I click a button – Google Search. The site generates a link, which I then share with the half-wit who has asked me about the salad spinner, whereupon they are firmly put in their place and probably feel like a dunce.

The link: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+a+salad+spinner

It’s hard not to feel foolish watching the process unfold – the first time it happened to me I think I actually blushed. You sit there, helpless, as the mouse scans over the screen, clicks in the search box and types out the question, then sends you to the actual Google results with a shame-inducing, “was that so hard?”

People don’t always laugh upon receiving this link, but it serves its purpose. Sister suggested that I become a comedienne, and I do not think she was being sincere. Lacy got so sick of it that she actually started looking things up herself. Me, I find it enormously entertaining.

Now, what should I goog…?

Million Dollar Idea

Posted by AllieB on October 14, 2010

Tina Casper is forever coming up with the perfect million dollar idea so we can all quit our jobs. She’s had some good ones, but unfortunately they’re all extant – ie, the “mini peanut butter pack.” She was crestfallen when I told her that, starting back in sixth grade,  I used a mini peanut butter pack every day to make my pb&j, so…a million dollar idea it was not.

Anyway – one of my biggest pet peeves is the ever-increasing size of my gmail account. I’m up to 82% now and it’s giving me anxiety. I am wildly OCD about my gmail – people with 2,497 emails in their inbox (KENNEDY) make me insane. I can’t even think about it.

this is to show how organized I am without oversharing. mostly it's giving me a headache

I was reading thru my Google Reader last night, and I came upon this site: http://www.findbigmail.com/. You link it up to your gmail, and it takes about 20 or so minutes – without slowing down your computer or kicking you out of gmail – to sort through all of your stuff, then creates three folders in your inbox: Big Mails, Really Big Mails, and Ultra Big Mails.

Voilà! Now I can easily decide what gets to stay and what gets the ax. I’ve been trying forever to figure out how to purge unnecessary emails without accidentally deleting something important. What the crap – why didn’t we think of this??

**I just deleted 10 or so of my Ultra Big Mails – all of which were lameass forwards from ’07 – and I’m down to 77%…!

***Nerd alert.
