There’s a Food Truck Extravaganza at Souper Jenny tonight. At first I kept seeing that it was Top Secret, but people have been Tweeting about it and posting it on Facebook, so I think the cat’s out of the bag. YumbiiTex’s Tacos…Souper J…it’s a win/win/win.

Me, I will have: spicy pulled pork quesadilla from Yumbii, a carne asada taco from Tex’s, and…yeah, that sounds good. Oh. I just saw that Souper Jenny is serving up a smoked gouda and bacon pimento cheese panini…christ on a cracker, it’s BATHING SUIT SEASON PEOPLE. You are not helping.

Freaking Tuesdays.

I love poetry, and a glass of scotch, and, of course, my friend Baxter here.

I want to go; I will attend

Posted by AllieB on May 12, 2011

The first ever Atlanta Food & Wine Festival is next weekend, May 19 – 22, and I really want to go. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go:

…An experience like no other that will unite leaders of their craft – barbecue pit masters, award-winning chefs and mixologists, Master Sommeliers, fry cooks and local growers – in the spirit of celebrating the deep food and beverage traditions of the South. Festival guests will have the unique opportunity to sip, savor and learn through a series of carefully-designed seminars, demonstrations and tasting experiences representing the best from Texas to D.C. and the states in between.

I can practically taste the pasture-raised pork and chive dumplings and seared rare Niman Ranch flat iron steak. Note: check out Lantern, the restaurant in Chapel Hill with Chef Andrea Reusing, who was just named the Best Chef in the Southeast by the James Beard Foundation – it looks ah-MAHZING (that’s how Penny says “amazing”). I’d really like to get the $500 3-day pass that would grant me attendance to 10 seminars, enjoy 4 tasting sessions, and I’d get a festival swag bag.

I thought about it, and, given that I’m basically a member of the media minus only the necessary credentials, it would be better if I had more of an insider’s perspective on the whole deal. Ergo, I go as a volunteer! I contacted the appropriate person, and they are in need of  “Pourers.” I do not know where or what I will be pouring, but I’m in. Plus, I’m pretty stealth when it comes to manuevering my way into places in which I am technically not allowed – I can totally envision myself in the Connoisseur Lounge, rubbing elbows with Michelle Bernstein…either way, I’m excited to be involved at all, and I hope that maybe there is an extra swag bag lying around.

In the same vein of places I want to go and things to attend: I must remind you all that tonight there is a little soiree at Scout for the Home. You can have wine whilst shopping whilst mingling. Join us, won’t you?

Yumbii in my tummy…

Posted by AllieB on April 12, 2011

Yumbii Far Out Food, parked today at the Prominence Office Building in Buckhead, served up two of the best, most fresh and flavorful tacos I have ever had. The food truck features Asian-Mexican fare, and, while I knew it was going to be good, I didn’t know it’d be that good.

There was no line, and the service was very friendly and fast. I went with pork (per Danielle’s suggestion) and the chicken. Two made a more than adequate lunch – they definitely load on the meat, but because there’s just a sesame salad as topping and no cheese (which even I didn’t miss), it’s not like overwhelming. The chicken, I think, was my favorite of the two, with an Asian flavor akin to kabobs (I love kabobs). The tacos are $2/each – a veritable steal.

I realize how effusive my praise sounds, but I get really excited about tasty food. The website and Twitter page provide frequent updates about location and even line length. For now, their weekly lunch locations are: Buckhead Tuesday and Friday, Atlantic Station on Wednesday; Midtown Mile at Woodruff Arts Plaza (there’s a whole food truck bonanza there on Thursdays).

Yumbii is owned and run by Atlanta native Carson Young, who teamed up with Hankook Taqueria over on Collier Road to bring these delectable lunchtime treats to the streets. The Atlanta Street Food Coalition is working to make permits more readily available to vendors across the city, and I wholeheartedly support their mission.

taken from yumbii.com - I took a picture of my own, which looked exactly like these do, but the lighting in my office didn't do them justice...

Friday: it’s a date. I must acquaint myself with other menu items. I can’t wait for Tex’s Tacos to open – the cheese fries, in particular, caught my eye…food trucks are my new favorite thing.

I am reminded of Led Zep’s classic hit, Ramble On….

Bummer

Posted by AllieB on April 12, 2011

Well, this is really too bad. Old Britney vs New Britney. Sick Dance Moves vs Are You Sick? Dance Moves. Wow, You Are an Awesome Dancer vs Wow, You Were an Awesome Dancer. Moonwalk vs Electric Slide. J Simps Newlyweds vs J Simps Employee of the Month. Allie vs Hilary. If it ain’t broke but then you break it, you can’t necessarily fix it….whatevs, you get my drift; it’s not good.

You do NOT need sound to appreciate her rump shakin booty awesomeness/slightly less awesomeness.

I will always, always love B Spears…but…at some point everyone has to retire and hang up their nude-colored bodysuits – Glory Days don’t last forever. From PopDust by way of NYMag.

Today my horo began with this:

Who wants to order the prix fixe dinner when you can belly up to the buffet table?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – these people have got my number. Elle.com -> best horos ever.

Today I am trying out the Yumbii food truck because I have never been to it and have been dying to go. I love tacos! Also, it is their day in Buckhead, so it’s convenient. Holla!

Friend or Foe?

Posted by AllieB on March 23, 2011

Emoticons: Friend or Foe?

BBT says…FRIEND! I’m a convert. Well, within reason. For instance, used sparingly in emails amongst friends, emoticons can be the perfect touch of irony or sincere emotion. I will say, I think it’s best not to cross the gender barrier with smiley faces, at least not until you’ve established specific boundaries pertaining to their use. Personally, I like the occasional :) or :( but, and I think this goes without saying, my most favorite and oft used is The Flat Face :| There are few such evocative combinations of punctuation marks.

Chris Brown: Friend or Foe?

FOE! He was very scary on Good Morning America yesterday (which I did not see until this AM when the Today show aired the clip – Betsy, Pal, and anyone else who watches GMA: you are dumb.). Get it together dude, people were just starting to forget what you did to Rihanna’s face. I definitely like Yeah 3X, but this Dennis Rodman alter-ego has gosta go.

William & Kate Lifetime Movie: Friend or Foe?

Duh. [countdown date=2011/4/18-21:00:00] [timer] until the Premiere!!! [/countdown]

So, I still want to do another survey, but I need your help. I’m even sharing a real email address (alliebaxter@gmail.com) to which you can send your thoughts. I’m dead serious: help a lady out.

In the meantime, I will be working on my own, much more interesting version of March Madness (credit: Kacy Lerkhof). I am much better equipped to predict the outcome of Pimento Cheese v Country Ham Biscuit (obviously the former – by an embarrassing margin) than that of two, in my mind, random basketball teams.
