New & Improved

Posted by AllieB on November 16, 2011

Good day.

Two, no three things of interest:

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar has been released. They seem to have cut out the bonus 13th month that I posed for…strange. That Brooklyn Decker is just tragic, isn’t she?

so sad :(

On a wholly unrelated note, I have updated my restaurant spreadsheet!!! I’ve even helpfully HIGHLIGHTED the new restaurants, per the suggestion of Randy Dale. I know I am missing some because there are more than 150 restaurants ITP (there are three or four OTP that I need to mention…next time), but it’s pretty comprehensive. You may check it out here, and it is also updated on my Atlanta Restaurants: A Guide page that has some other helpful links to reviews and stuff. I aim to please.

My posts are getting shorter and shorter…OH YEAH – I went back to Mirko and ordered off the menu…BBT says: delicious. I got papardelle (long, wide noodle) with the mushroom cream sauce. It had approximately 1,400 calories and 45 grams of fat, but it was really, really good. My father got the papardelle with the Amatriciana (spicy tomato) sauce, and his was really good, too. Not as good as my gluttonous concoction, but very tasty nevertheless. Plus, the Spinaci salad (baby spinach, goat cheese, raisins, some vinaigrette dressing) was also quite good. Forget Pan-Asian on Sundays; I’m going to Mirko.

Watch out for tornadoes.

OH HAPPY DAY

Posted by AllieB on November 9, 2011

As many of you know from spending time with me, or from this blog post, I am never without my trusty Vaseline. Before you’re like, “EW” know that Vaseline is one of the few balms without any of those pesky additives like Carmex, which I am convinced have some sort of ingredient that makes you addicted. I am not addicted to Vaseline, I just have a very strong fondness for it. Anyway, when they came out with the small flip top size I was thrilled, but it’s still kind of bulky and boys people will look you at strangely when you whip it out in public/at a work meeting. I’d seen Tina’s convenient little pocket sized ones that her boss would bring her back from Europe, but I could not find them ANYWHERE. I even looked on the internet, and when I tried to get drugstores in the UK to ship it to me they’d say, “We’re terribly sorry, but there seems to be something wrong with your postal code. It is five digits long and it has no letters.” Well, KMA, England because – once again – Amazon has saved the day.

Available at Amazon.com. I’ve purchased all 4.

I should probably take my love for Vaseline down a notch/less public.

I met with my interviewee at Bocado last night, and I’m getting to work on the interview write-up…it was really fun, and I’m already thinking about who’s next. Short list includes: Carlos of Irby Avenue fame; a lead singer of a famous rock band; a fashion designer; Missy Baxter.

Weak Sauce

Posted by AllieB on November 4, 2011

I feel like a traitor for saying this, but I am not 100% in love with the new look of Gmail…it’s too spacious or something.

Last night, amidst the rain and fraffic, I got my culture on at Huff Harrington Art Gallery. It is my favorite of all the galleries. But last night was a special Owner’s Reception for Lorraine Christie’s new show – my parents own two, I own a poorly framed poster (but I still love it). Prince Charles owns a couple and so does Eli Manning – this woman’s legit. She is also a delight to talk to in person, as my parents and I did last night. She’s from Belfast, Ireland and is very thin and very blonde and very charming.

Paris Remembered

Poet’s Walk

Love it! ALSO Huff Harrington Home is opening soon next to Lucy’s Market on W. Paces Ferry by the St. Regis…I’ll be at the opening reception next Thursday and will report back, but I know it will be fabulous and not even in the same hemisphere as my budget.

After all the culture, I got some margs over on the Westside at Bone Garden Cantina. The skeleton/Día de Muertos theme is kind of aggressive, but the Hot Chile Margarita was very tasty. In fact, I might even have to re-do my Best in Show: Margs list. I’m bumping Nava and adding Bone Garden – Nava’s make me queasy and I am skeptical as to the amount of tequila they put in there. And Treehouse is still my numero uno.

TO DO: Chomp & Stomp Chili Festival. I’ve been the last two years and it’s really fun….and I’ve never even had any chili.

Chomp & Stomp 2k10: Tina, Allie, Mims, Leigh, Lindsay. Lookin good!

OR you can check out the Butt Off. It’s at Sweetwater and for $25 you get all the beer and bbq you can handle…plus proceeds benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

With this weather it’s a win/win.

Oh yeah, I got my nails did the other day and I LOVE the color: O.P.I. Road House Blues. I saw it on Pinterest, obviously, and I think I’ll sport it thru the winter. Just FYI.

HOLLA!

So, I lied.

For the life of me, I can not figure out a good way to randomly – like, legitimately randomly – come up with a way to choose a winner of the basically priceless prize of $20 to iTunes. I bet I could Goog this, and I probably will, but I just wanted you all to know that the contest is STILL ON… it’s just taking slightly longer to execute. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow. I promise – and I’ll take the oath of Chanel – that I will choose a winner…at some point.

Re: the survey. It seems that people really do enjoy the premise and the idea of a survey of their peers/the opposite sex, but my questions were boring. This is a valid point: my questions were boring. However, BBT is a personal blog – my name’s all over this and my reader demographics expand far beyond those in my immediate age range. Therefore, there are certain parameters and standards I must uphold. The internet is permanent, and once I put something out there I really can’t get it back. So, until I start writing under some pseudonym on a totally random page (lightbulb!), my surveys will continue to air on the conservative side of PG-13. We keep things classy around here.

Q&A:

do you have the new iPhone? I don’t. I really really want it. This demo of the new SIRI program (credit: Seth) is not helping. I mean, this thing is badass. The future is now!

are you watching Homeland??? It’s new on Showtime (Sundays @ 9 pm) starring Claire Danes. It is awesome. The premise is as follows: thought-to-be-dead POW Sergeant Brody is found alive after 8 years MIA. The story begins with his triumphant return to the USA…or is it??? Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA agent, received word from a paid snitch in Iraq that an American POW has been turned….is it Brody?? We don’t know. Everyone’s paranoid, and the show is awesome at keeping the twists and turns going. WATCH IT. It’s by the producers of 24, and I’m totally hooked…plus, it’s Showtime so they can really push the limits re: plot lines.

-ok, this isn’t a question, but check out this comprehensive compilation of the most controversial magazine covers of all time (credit: YKenna). It’s got pop culture, Vietnam, OJ Simpson, Demi Moore, religion, a baby nursing…it’s a quick pictorial lesson in history. Worth a look.

The last thing I need is this guy finding a scandalous survey by BBT.

OH, that reminds me: HBD ABE the V!

Large and in charge

Posted by AllieB on October 12, 2011

Well. I am pleased to report that my contest is off to a roaring start with FIVE new Facebook likes since my post on Monday. World domination is at my finger tips, I can feel it…honestly, this is kind of pathetic. Even my horoscope said social media was where I’d really shine this week – damn horoscopes. PX, go like BBT. I’m not going just “give” you the gift card- you don’t even have an iPhone. Only 50 or so hours until I choose a winner…the clock is ticking…

Last night I went to see the Picasso to Warhol exhibit at the High. It opens to the public on Saturday, but G-force and I went because she’s a member of sorts and they invited her to see it early. They had a lot of really famous works that are cool to see (it all came from the MoMA in NYC), so it’s not just the big names to lure you in then only a few lame sketches. I highly recommend going to see this; you have through April.

In addition – and I don’t know if you knew this – I was an art history major in college with a concentration in modern art, so I was really in my element. And by “element” I mean I’m pretty sure I recognized some of the art from one of the classes I think I took…as you might expect, this degree has done wonders for my career and I am shooting up the corporate ladder as we speak.

I’m sorry, there’s no way she’s not pregnant:

She is one busty lady…my goodness.

And last but certainly not least, one of my oldest and favorite friends, MKPyles, turns 30 tomorrow..!!! Join me, won’t you, in celebrating his birth at Kramer’s. I hear there will be balloons.
