It’s turkey time, you turkeys

Posted by AllieB on November 21, 2011

The annual day of thanks is upon us once again. I’ve come to really love Thanksgiving, and despite the fact that I will be the lone ranger dining with my parents and Missy and that it is a very unsettling 75 degrees outside, I am nevertheless very excited about this holiday.

I even wanted to cook something. I’m not going to, but the thought seriously crossed my mind – so much so that I BOOKMARKED recipes. This this one of Linton Hopkins’ wild rice casserole looked pretty delicious.

from: Garden & Gun

My second option was a less-tony-but-still-tasty-looking beans with brown butter.

Conclusion: neither/nor, but I WILL be ever so helpful with preparation and cleaning. I’m serious, I will. OH, maybe I’ll create a themed cocktail for us…that can be my project. Or we can just stick to the Baxter Tride & True: Whiskey Sours. That’s fine with me. Hey, look at that – I’m already done with my project. I had some lofty aspirations for cooking something last year, too – in case you were wondering, it didn’t pan out. And there’s your token turkey day funny on the right; I borrowed it from myself, which is totally not cheating.

I’m working on my holiday wishlist right now, I’ll put that up next week. What with the arrival of Pinterest in my life, it’s been a lot easier to compile/keep track of my wants and needs. My mother has already informed me that she has completed her holiday shopping, so I guess I should have gotten on top of this sooner…Gaylen and I aren’t always on the same schedule re: getting things done.

ATLiens: The Whigs are playing their annual Thanksgiving show on Friday night at Variety Playhouse. Openers are Ponderosa and Johnny Corndawg. Be there or be not awesome.

I mostly just wanted to check in real quick and say hey. Hey.

Weak Sauce

Posted by AllieB on November 4, 2011

I feel like a traitor for saying this, but I am not 100% in love with the new look of Gmail…it’s too spacious or something.

Last night, amidst the rain and fraffic, I got my culture on at Huff Harrington Art Gallery. It is my favorite of all the galleries. But last night was a special Owner’s Reception for Lorraine Christie’s new show – my parents own two, I own a poorly framed poster (but I still love it). Prince Charles owns a couple and so does Eli Manning – this woman’s legit. She is also a delight to talk to in person, as my parents and I did last night. She’s from Belfast, Ireland and is very thin and very blonde and very charming.

Paris Remembered

Poet’s Walk

Love it! ALSO Huff Harrington Home is opening soon next to Lucy’s Market on W. Paces Ferry by the St. Regis…I’ll be at the opening reception next Thursday and will report back, but I know it will be fabulous and not even in the same hemisphere as my budget.

After all the culture, I got some margs over on the Westside at Bone Garden Cantina. The skeleton/Día de Muertos theme is kind of aggressive, but the Hot Chile Margarita was very tasty. In fact, I might even have to re-do my Best in Show: Margs list. I’m bumping Nava and adding Bone Garden – Nava’s make me queasy and I am skeptical as to the amount of tequila they put in there. And Treehouse is still my numero uno.

TO DO: Chomp & Stomp Chili Festival. I’ve been the last two years and it’s really fun….and I’ve never even had any chili.

Chomp & Stomp 2k10: Tina, Allie, Mims, Leigh, Lindsay. Lookin good!

OR you can check out the Butt Off. It’s at Sweetwater and for $25 you get all the beer and bbq you can handle…plus proceeds benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

With this weather it’s a win/win.

Oh yeah, I got my nails did the other day and I LOVE the color: O.P.I. Road House Blues. I saw it on Pinterest, obviously, and I think I’ll sport it thru the winter. Just FYI.

HOLLA!

You come here to me

Posted by AllieB on August 15, 2011

Hello, let’s jump right in.

I went to the PGA tournament out at Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday. It was extremely hot and extremely fun. I have a new found respect for all things golf, largely thanks to Adam Scott. WHERE HAS HE BEEN HIDING because he is one attractive Australian – AUSTRALIAN!! Geoff Baxter very kindly humored my crush and we bird-dogged him through the back nine….I am quite sure we made eye contact on more than one occasion, and I know he felt it, too – our “connection.”

Oh hai

JBax moved to NYC on Saturday and CKB and Stanton are moving to LA tomorrow. WTF! I am excited to have reason to visit these places, but I feel a little abandoned…and you know Missy isn’t happy.

Per my weekly horoscope, sorry in advance:

You’re a bit of an over-sharer this week, Gemini, so try to pay attention to the body language of your fellow conversationalists.

BOLO for social awkwardness…!

I haven’t had Tex’s in like two weeks, and I’m craving it bad. Here’s this week’s schedule. I might finally do the Howell Mill Food Truck Night Event Extravaganza – I’ve been talking about going for ages and have yet to pull the trigger. I’ll be the first to admit that BBT can be a lot of talk and not so much with the action. Carne asada: get IN my belly.

Lastly, I would like to direct your attention to the very bottom of the home page where I have – ever so helpfully – added page numbers for your browsing enjoyment. You’re welcome.

What the crap!

Posted by AllieB on August 9, 2011

WTC! In Paris they now have 24-hour vending machines that dispense piping hot, freshly baked baguettes. I want to go to there!! If only they’d gotten their act together a year ago. I’ve been reliving our trip to France all week by way of photographs – minus the dead lady on the plane ride over (total downer), it was a perfect vacation…hindsight 20/20, right? In true Fat American fashion, Al Roker remarked: “They need one of those over here that has donuts instead of baguettes…” Good call, Al – just what we need, another champion for America’s obesity…especially from someone who’s actually already had gastric bypass surgery. I’m really down on the Today show right now, yet haven’t been able to pull the trigger on GMA…six in one, half dozen in the other.

4-wheelers that went up to like 50 MPH – that’s fast, right? They went really fast. Ode to Georgia Bar. (My t-shirt is a GA Bar t-shirt.)

Ok. This is the type of information that I would maybe tell my friends after I’ve been doing it for awhile … truth bomb: sometimes I sit on relevant information before sharing it with my peers. Of course, everyone could have known about this all along, making me moron who thinks she’s got a piece of groundbreaking information. Anyway, without further ado: I’ve been reading this blog written by Victoria’s Secret model Chrissy Teigen. I know…she’s dating John Legend and is actually pretty hilarious…she’s kind of a nut -I think we’d get along nicely. I follow her on Twitter, too. Anyway, I she imparted some very valuable wisdom in her post, “Ugh, alcohol:”

*fact: most fashion industry people that are watching their weight (so everyone) drink vodka/club soda splash of lime. Even lighter. Get Goose. Potato vodkas are a no no. This is my drink of choice lately. Kind of tastes like ass, and trust me, I can’t wait for swimsuit modeling season to go away. I miss the cold Christmas shopping days where I fill a to-go cup with coffee halfway and pour Bailey’s in the rest. Then I hit the city, shop, and completely forget what I ended up buying anyone until I get the thank you cards. It’s fun.

Minus the part about swimsuit modeling season :|, I really appreciate this whole excerpt. And I’m glad to know I no longer have to buy all my Christmas gifts online – her plan sounds pretty awesome. Anyway, this part about Grey Goose only was very interesting to me – it’s made with wheat in France. You know how no one in France is fat??? Oh wow, this is really coming full circle…baguettes from Paris, vodka from France…I never tie things together so nicely. Horn: tooted! And now I really, really want to go back to France.

Sisters in Paris. Notably absent: hot, fresh baguettes from nearby vending machine

On notice: Betches Love This Site. It’s become an internet sensation and I hate it. I don’t even really want to link to it because they get plenty of fraffic as is, but…whatever, here it is. They started it in February and have 35,000+ followers on Twitter and apparently have a movie deal. WTF! They cuss too much – it’s very crass. However, they write anonymously which is I figure how they get away with some of the stuff they say…I mean, I guess they’re entertaining – I feel like they appeal to a slightly younger (read: college-age) demographic – one comprised of srat sistas who love to flip their hair and squeal. I cannot stand shrill, high-pitched people. I think the Betches and I can just agree to disagree…unless they’re looking for staff writers, in which case I may or may not be available.

WHAT THE CRAP HAPPENED TO SINEAD O’CONNOR.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Suri’s Burn Book. Suri Cruise talks shop/smack/shudders at the idea of a working class school and “lunch in a box” – on Mario Lopez’s child: LOOK AT THE CANKLES ON THIS BABY. But like, seriously…she’s got a point. (credit: Pal)

Emails from an A**hole. I bet I know a lot of people who have some fodder for this site in their archives…

Preemptively strike back against the Mundays!! Apparently the average person doesn’t crack their first smile til 11:16 AM on Mondays. Here’s how to turn your frown upside down and drive your co-workers crazy with an up and at ’em attitude.

This is surprisingly not lame: Six life-changing uses for binder clips. I’m serious – the toothpaste and cable cord ones, especially…and if you’re a frat star, the beer stacker.

An amazingly in-depth and borderline scientific look at the sex lives of the Friends characters. I’m talking percentages and stuff. Somebody has waaaay too much time on their hands.

CKB is running the San Francisco marathon on Sunday morning. It’s her second time running it. She’s a machine, my sister is…goooooooooo CHAR!!!

This is the most recent picture I have of the two of us doing something active together.
